Whooping cough cases increase

Cases of whooping cough (pertussis) reported to the Health Protection Agency (HPA) in England and Wales have more than doubled from 421 cases in 2010 to 1040 in 2011. Increases in levels of whooping cough are seen every three to four years and figures in 2011 are in line with cases reported in the last peak year of 2008.

The Surgery offers extended evening surgery hours on certain dates. These sessions are to help people who work and are not able to come to the surgery during daytime opening hours. Please contact reception and you will be advised of the next evening surgery session. The hours of these sessions are 18.00-20.30hrs.

Wednesday afternoon closing

The practice is closed ONCE a month for staff development and training, except in December and January. Our doctors, Nursing and administrative staff do need time to train together, which is vital to improve service delivery. We DO NOT close on other Wednesday afternoons.

	Emergency Appointments
	If you consider your medical problem to be urgent please telephone the surgery in the first instance as we may have a routine appointment to offer you on the day. If there are no routine appointments you will be asked to attend the surgery and wait to see the Duty Doctor.

Out of Hours

Emergency cover is provided outside normal surgery hours, at weekends and bank holidays by Central Nottinghamshire Clinical Services Ltd. Please telephone 01623 557108 and your call will be automatically diverted.

You will be required to provide full information about your problem and will be expected to attend the primary care centre at Kings Mill Hospital if deemed appropriate.

In the case of urgent need when the practice is closed you can call NHS Direct (0845 4647) to speak to a triage nurse. Your needs will be assessed and advice offered or arrangements made for you to see a doctor.

Please do not ask to see a doctor out of hours unless you genuinely cannot wait until the surgery re-opens.

Call 999 in an emergency. Chest pains and/or shortness of breath constitute an emergency.
