Travel Clinic

The practice undertakes immunisation for travel abroad. We are an approved Yellow Fever Centre. Please enquire at reception six to eight weeks before departure.

Contraceptive Care

Nurses primarily deal with contraceptive care but doctors can assist when nursing appointments are not available. All our doctors provide contraceptive care by individual appointment.

Minor Surgery

Dr's  Jenkins and Woods provide minor surgery services within the practice. This means that you may not have to go to hospital for some small operations or special injections. Your doctor will discuss this with you.

Well Person Checks

Where they carry out blood pressure checks (this should be done every two years for adults) and offer advice on lifestyle issues, for example alcohol consumption, smoking, diet and exercise.

Well Women Checks

As above with the addition of advice on problems concerning women's health in particular. They can also provide tuition on breast self-examination.

Heart Disease Prevention

Where assessment can be made of the risk factors likely to provoke coronary disease. Advice is given on lifestyle measures aimed at preventing problems emerging in the future.

Diabetes Care

Monitoring and advice.

Cervical Smears

Where reminders are sent out every three to five years for women aged between 25 to 64 years:-

• Three years for women aged 25-49
• Five years for 50-64. 
• 65+: Only screen those who have not been screened since age 50 or have had recent abnormal tests

Ante-Natal Clinics

The midwives hold ante-natal clinics on Tuesdays & Thursdays and Booking Clinics on Wednesdays.

Baby Clinics

New Baby clinics are held on a Wednesday for babies 1st three vaccinations.  1 year old vaccinations are carried out by the nurses in clinics held on Mondays or Tuesdays.  Pre-school Vaccinations Clinics are held Wednesdays.

If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements.  This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required.

It is important to make the initial appointment as early as possible  - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.

Yellow Fever Centre

We are a registered Yellow Fever Centre and are able to offer this service to travellers, whether or not they are registered with the practice.

Full payment is required before the vaccination is given.  Please note that we do not accept debit or credit cards.  Cheques can be accepted with a valid cheque guarantee card.

Sickness Certificates

You do not require a doctor's sickness certificate for any illness lasting seven days or less. Your employer may however require you to complete a self-certification form (SC2) which is available from your employer or on the HMRC website.

For any illness lasting longer than seven days you will need to see the doctor for him/her to issue a sickness certificate (F.med3) and for any subsequent renewal of the certificate. If your employer insists on a sickness certificate for 7 days or less a charge will be levied.

PLEASE NOTE THAT IT IS NOT CLASSED AS AN EMERGENCY TO HAVE YOUR SICK NOTE REVIEWED.  PLEASE DO NOT BOOK AN EMERGENCY APPOINTMENT FOR THIS.

Important Changes from 6 April 2010:

New ‘fit note’ to help you back to work after illness

A new ‘fit note’ is going to be introduced in place of the doctor’s sick note on 6 April 2010 if Parliament approves the changes. With your employer's support, the note will help you return to work sooner by providing more information about the effects of your illness or injury.

Fit note – changes explained

The new fit note will be called the ‘Statement of Fitness for Work’ and will be used in England, Scotland and Wales. It will have more information than the present doctor’s sick note.

The main changes will mean:

• your GP will be able to say if they think you are ‘not fit for work’ or ‘may be fit for work’
• your GP can add advice to the note for your employer on how simple changes to the job you do may allow you to return to work earlier
• there will be fewer kinds of medical statements forms issued by GPs

How the changes will help employees and employers

Research shows that long periods out of work can lead to worse health while working can be good for your physical and mental health and well-being. The longer you are absent through illness, the lower are the chances of you returning to work. Work may help you recover quicker from illness.

The new fit note is intended for both employees and employers by helping people back to work as soon as possible. Employees will benefit from better health and well-being because they have gone back to work. Employers will be able to keep skilled staff, contributing to the success of the business and reducing sickness absence.

We have now exhausted all supplies of this year's seasonal flu vaccine following a successful campaign to vaccinate our patients 65 and over and all aged over 6 months with chronic illnesses such as heart, respiratory, kidney, liver, diabetes, stroke/TIA, degenerative neurological disease, e.g. MS, and patients with immunosuppression, and our registered carers.
